Has the press room changed?

In the printing industry things change very fast!
It was not long ago that people were stripping up film on off set presses and then the next day they have computer to plate machines!
I’ve only been in this industry for about 5 years now and already I have seen some amazing changes.
Not only in the press room, but throughout the entire production process and equipment at our diposal.

It is interesting that in a few short years, we have moved offset work to digital printing presses to increase personalized communications and allow for shorter runs.

This is one of the reasons why the printing industry is still a $640 BILLION dollar industry and drives over $3.8 TRILLION in related services!!!!

People say print is dead, when actually print is evolving.

The link below talks more about the modern press room and how technology has changed.

What is ink?

Ink is a substance, liquid or paste that contains pigments or dyes. Ink is mostly  used to colour a surface to produce an image. The image is sometimes text, pictures or a complex design. Thicker inks, in paste form, are used extensively in offset and lithographic printing.

Ink is also used for drawing or writing. This sort of ink is usually thinner.

The components of inks serve many purposes; the ink’s carrier, colorants, and other additives affect the flow and thickness of the ink and its appearance when dry. From glossy to matte finishes and also the penetration it has into the paper material.

In the next weeks we will explore the common uses of ink as well as the more interesting ones.
